Introduction
This article will show you how to enable Multi-factor authentication (MFA), an extra security layer for your NordPass encrypted vault, using authenticator applications or security keys:
- You may use authenticator applications to generate code, such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy, or any other. Any of those apps will create a code that changes every 30 seconds, which you must enter whenever accessing your Nord Account.
- A second option is to use a security key. It can be a Bluetooth, NFC, or USB security key that holds a unique PIN and ensures effortless access only for you.
Note: Multi-factor authentication (MFA) will be activated on your Nord Account. This means you'll need to undergo an additional identity check whenever you log in to your Nord Account and access any Nord Security products — NordPass, NordVPN, and NordLocker.
Here's what to do
- Log in to the NordPass application or NordPass WebVault.
- Select the cog icon to access settings, scroll down to the security section, and enable the “Multi-factor Authentication (MFA)” toggle button.
-
Log in to your Nord Account, and click on the "Manage MFA" button:
- Verify your email by entering the verification code that was sent to your inbox or spam folder.
- Select the "Set up" button near the Authenticator app or Security key options.
- If you have chosen the Authenticator app option, scan the QR code or enter the key into your mobile MFA app (such as Google Authenticator, Authy, Microsoft Authenticator, or other) from the pop-up window.
- Once your account is saved in the authenticator application, return to the Nord Account website and click on the "Continue" button.
- Afterward, enter the MFA code generated by your mobile authentication application to finish enabling MFA.
- Alternatively, if you have chosen the Security key option, click on the "Continue" button in the pop-up window.
- Complete the process by registering the security key and following the provided instructions.
Additional tips
- Make sure to save your backup codes in case you cannot access the authenticator application.
- You will not be asked to provide an MFA code unless you are already logged in to your Nord Account on the device.
